Birthdays

     What a wonderful holiday is Birthday! They measure you at the door frame to see how much you have grown, how much you have gained, what progress you have made. Everyone praises you and gives you gifts. You are the most important person!

     And then, when you already have a family and children, you celebrate their birthdays, get ready, buy gifts, and in the bustle you forget that you also have a birthday. And it doesn’t matter that it exists, because nothing changes from year to year, everything is as it was last year, so it will be in the future. There's nothing much to celebrate.

     But the day comes when you receive the greatest gift in life - Time. It becomes yours. It’s such a blessing that in the morning the ruthless dictator Alarm Clock no longer yells “jump up and run so you can do whole lots of things and not be late for work.” Now you lie in bed, listen to the news, solve world or even universal problems, sometimes write something, and plan for today. You have another great everyday pleasure - a cup or even two cups of coffee. In warm weather, you drink it on the balcony, listen to the birds singing and enjoy the sun and life together with them.

     But from year to year, energy, vision, hearing, balance, memory and speed of thinking decrease, and time begins to fly faster and faster. In the evening you see that you didn’t manage to do anything during the day, you didn’t even write down the little story that you made up in the morning, because you simply forgot it. It doesn't matter at all anymore.

     Now birthdays are becoming holidays again. You got one more year from Destiny. This is an incomparable gift, and you no longer need other gifts. You rejoice and hope that Lady Luck will be generous and will give you at least one and maybe even several years more.
