East & West: Culture, Religion, and Moral Values
2:00 – 3:30 p.m., Moss A Mondays: Jan. 27; Feb. 3, 10, 17 (4 sessions)
Join Diane Peterson and author Galina Popovici in a discussion of her book, East and West: Religions and Laws. The class will examine the relationship and interconnection of religions and laws, their history and their influence on the destiny of humankind beginning with pre-Christian religions and continuing through the history of Christianity. We will consider the impact of Christianity’s three branches—Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Protestantism—and the development of culture within each. The role of the Protestant Church in the history of the U.S. and the Orthodox Church in Russian history will be compared.
