Much learning does not teach understanding.
Abundance of knowledge does not teach men to be wise
Heraclitus
Thinking and knowing can be compared to the
propagation of sound in the matter. To get sound, you must have a source of energy
that will produce vibrations and a medium in which the vibrations will
propagate. Sound does not travel in a vacuum. The denser the medium, the higher
the speed of sound propagation.
Thinking can be compared with the source
of sound, and knowledge - with the medium in which sound propagates. One cannot
exist without the other. Thinking is the energy that organizes knowledge.
Without this energy, knowledge will be dead. But knowledge can speed up the
work of the mind.
